Sh-Boom by The Chords

The nostalgic energy of the classic song 'Sh-Boom' is in every word and chord. Cars features this song by The Chords and it brings back memories for any American. Since I was 3 years old Cars has been my favorite movie so I felt it was only natural I would do Sh-Boom for my weekly music blog. The song begins with a Cappella harmony but not for long- drums and other instruments kick in as soon as the song hits five seconds. The a Cappella intro is such a smart way to begin this song. It's sudden and loud start grabs the listeners attention right away. This song has such a quartet turned R&B feel to me. During this time in music, black groups or people would create songs and because of the intense segregation still around, White artists would take the original song and turn it into their own- which would make it much higher on the charts. The Crew Cuts did this to Sh-Boom. The Chords season their hit song with lots of scat singing. When the Crew Cuts redid the song, they tried to incorporate scat singing but I think they should've just left it to the professionals.

  1. A great song choice and a great blog post! I agree with how nostalgic this song is thanks to Cars and other memories I have with it. I love the history you give behind the song as well, talking about things such as different versions, racial issues, etc. At the end of the day this is just an enjoyable song with so much attached to it and you did a great job painting that picture in this blog post!

  2. I loved how to brought up your own personal history with the song! I also think my first exposure to the song was Cars so we have that in common. I also loved how you brought up the racial issues behind the song it is always interesting to look into some of the lesser known history behind songs.
